Decisions, Decisions: Unitrust or Gift Annuity?

A fundamental decision that life-income donors must make is whether to have a fixed payment, or a variable payment that has the potential to grow over time. Despite its significance, this decision is sometimes made without real consideration of the donor’s true objectives or the risks associated with each option. We will discuss the gift planner’s role in helping donors explore their planning goals, the risks and potential rewards associated with CRUTs and gift annuities as well as various assets that can be used for funding, and the context in which informed gift planning decisions can be made.

Timothy Prosser, JD, is a Relationship Manager/Senior Technical Consultant at Kaspick & Company. Tim has nearly 20 years of experience in legal practice and financial services, having worked at TIAA CREF Trust Company for 15 years and practiced estate planning law, estate and trust administration, charitable giving, and business succession planning. Tim has served on the board of the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning and as Chair of its National Conference. He is a board member and past president of the Saint Louis Planned Giving Council and is a recipient of the Council’s Founders Award. He received his BA in Russian Area Studies from Loyola University and his JD and MA in Public Administration from St. Louis University.
