Course Description

Looking for an introductory session that covers the basics of planned giving? Or possibly a refresher on the various planned giving strategies available and how to talk about them with donors? Then PGGNE's Fundamentals program is for you! The course offers an emphasis on learning the concepts in order to develop a conversational understanding of the technical topics so that you can speak with confidence to donors and prospects. If you are new to planned giving, need a refresher, or are a development generalist, this course will give you an overview of gift planning and the tools you need to make the most of it. All attendees will receive a copy of Craig Wruck's book Planned Giving in a Nutshell.

Summary and Objectives:

• Participants will receive an overview of charitable gift planning basics, including the tax aspects of outright contributions and planned giving techniques
• Emphasis will be on conceptual understanding and the ability to explain concepts to prospective donors in a clear and convincing way
• Four major topic areas will be covered: 1) Tax Fundamentals, 2) Assets Used for Charitable Contributions, 3) Basic Planned Giving Methods, and 4) Advanced Planned Giving Methods

Presenter

Craig Wruck is a senior advisor at PG Calc. His experience in charitable giving spans more than 40 years in both nonprofit and for-profit organizations. He has served at the University of Minnesota, Humboldt State University, Minnesota State University, and the Saint Paul Community Foundation. In addition, he has worked for U.S. Trust Company, US Bank, and Kaspick & Company. Craig received the David M. Donaldson Distinguished Service Award from PGGNE in 1999. He past president of the National Committee on Planned Giving (now the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners) and has served as a member of its board of directors and as chair of its government relations committee. Craig is the author of Planned Giving in a Nutshell, a practical guide to planned giving for development generalists. He earned his MBA from the University of St. Thomas and his bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Utah.

Registration Policy: 

Registrations must be received by 5:00 PM on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. All payments are due prior to attending the event and required to reserve your seat.

Refund/Cancellation Policy:
Cancellations and refund requests are required by 5:00 PM on April 30, 2024. In accordance, only refund requests received by this time will be granted. Email your cancellation/refund request to info@pggne.org. All emails received will be acknowledged.

FAQs

• How do I receive the PGGNE Partner / Member / Associate rates? The rate is tied to your PGGNE 2023-2024 membership and member type. Please log-in to your PGGNE account to receive the appropriate rate.
  
• What if I miss the registration cut-off (Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at 5PM)? Registration after Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at 5PM will be considered and treated as a "Walk-in", see rate above. Registration will be permitted if space allows on the day-of, and will be handled at the onsite registration desk. Payment (check or credit card) will be due at the time of registration. Dietary restrictions will not be able to be accommodated.
  
• What is the discount code for "substitutes"? The "substitute" member benefit does not apply to the conference, only monthly meetings. If the person wanting to register is not currently a PGGNE member, they should register as a non-member. Make sure you are not logged in to a current member's account when registering, otherwise that current member will be the registrant.
• Can I pay by check? To ensure payment, we ask that all attendees register through our website registration system with a credit card. 
• I can no longer attend, can I get a refund? Please see the cancellation policy below. In addition, PGGNE can transfer your registration to another current PGGNE member at your organization prior to May 1st at no charge or to a non-member within your organization if a balance difference in rates is paid by the non-member. Email info@pggne.org for assistance.
• Is there an attendee list? Yes, all attendees will receive a printed conference attendee list (name, job title, and organization) when they pick-up their name tag and swag.

Policies

Registration: Registrations must be received by 5:00 PM (EST) Wednesday, May 1, 2024.

Cancelation: Only written refund requests received by 5:00 PM (EST) Wednesday, May 1, 2024 with be processed. Send cancelation requests to info@pggne.org. All requests will be acknowledged within 24-business hours. PGGNE is unable to accommodate refunds after Wednesday, May 1, 2024, and does not offer credits.

COVID-19 Safety Policy: We ask each registrant to sign an attestation during registration acknowledging the statement and policy below. "For the safety of my PGGNE colleagues, I attest that I am fully vaccinated with eligible boosters (as defined by the CDC) for COVID-19; if I am not, I will wear a mask through the duration of the meeting except for when eating/drinking.
