From the President

March 2016

Harness • Connect • Engage

Dear PGGNE Members and Friends:

Wasn’t it wonderful to all be back at the monthly meeting in March? The webinars during the winter months of January and February were well received (especially given our snow February day!), but nothing can replace the energy of our members being together again.

We had some engaging dialogue in our morning sessions. Thank you Charlie Gordy and Ernesto Fernandez for leading a discussion on Ethics in Planned Giving that was wildly applauded and worth a repeat. Alan Cantor led an important discussion on the rise of Donor Advised Funds and their potential controversies. Donor Advised Funds play a key role in philanthropy. Keep an eye out for future discussions with contrasting views and thoughts on how nonprofit organizations can work best with donors who give through DAFs. And of course, thank you to lunch speaker Olly Ames at Casner & Edwards who helped us think through some challenging gift scenarios.

Allow me to take a moment to make you aware of another way in which YOU can be involved with PGGNE. Starting next fall, PGGNE will launch the President’s Council for members who would like to participate in the growth of PGGNE by serving in a “friends of the board” capacity. Do you have ideas about programming? Speaker suggestions? Want to be involved in sponsorship development? These are all areas where we need your help and have created the Council to have your voices heard and your energy felt. There will be more to follow on this, but please do not hesitate to ask me and other board members about volunteering.

Finally, I hope you are ready for the exciting speakers we’ve lined up for the May Annual Conference! Save the date of Friday, May 13th when we return to the REVERE HOTEL!
