Save the Date!

Wednesday, May 6, 2015

Please mark your calendars and make sure to bring a friend to the  All-Day Conference.

Parking Information

Two parking options are available. Please note that 200 Stuart Street Garage fills up fast and PGGNE cannot guarantee a parking space in either garage due to increased car/guest volume.

200 Stuart Street Garage: Located within the Revere Hotel, PGGNE meeting attendees may self park for a validated rate $17. Be sure to pick up your parking validation ticket from the PGGNE registration desk. Rates are not applicable for overnight guests. If you see a sign stating that the parking garage is full, please inform the hotel attendant that you are participating in the PGGNE meeting. They will often be able to direct you to an open space.

Motor Mart Garage: Located at 201 Stuart Street, across from the Revere Hotel. Discounted rates are not available at this garage. The current rate schedule can be found here

Snow Policy

February has historically been a tough month for winter weather. Please remember that PGGNE meetings may be cancelled if the mayor or governor has declared a state of emergency in Boston. If the meeting is cancelled an alert will be posted on the website and the PGGNE office will record a voice mail message (at 781-647-4343, press *300) by 8:00 AM on the day of the meeting.

From the President

Dear PGGNE Members and Friends,

After eighteen years of membership in PGGNE, I know why I continue to value every month at the meetings. First, and foremost in my mind, great colleagues. We gave Peter Doyle a fond farewell in January as he moves on to retirement. Since we have all learned so much from Peter, his standing ovation was well deserved, but his surprise and humility was touching.

Secondly, but not a far second, I continue to learn every single month from our presenters. Ellen Estes is renowned for her ability to teach planned giving, and in January she brought this expertise to PGGNE to present on Life Income Gifts. I was reminded that the flexible deferred gift annuity can be a perfect giving vehicle for a donor planning for retirement. We had Suma Nair from Goulston and Storrs present on tax law. I am amazed that she makes tax changes fascinating. Our own Charlie Glassenberg hit it out of the ballpark with his presentation on Donor Advised funds - really, the best presentation I’ve heard on the topic. If you missed it, you might want to peruse his handout that is available on our website. Or, you could corner Charlie and pick his brain the next time you see him at PGGNE. I’m sure he won’t mind that I’ve offered you his personal insights on the subject!
PGGNE continues to be an outstanding value. There is no where else to receive this level of education, training and networking for such a reasonable price. A colleague who recently returned from California commented on her new found appreciation for the caliber of our group - visiting other professional associations made her realize how lucky she is to have access to PGGNE.

Please join us for coffee and networking in February at 10:00 at the registration table. We will then move to the presentations - a basic session on merging wealth transfer and charitable planning, and a more technical session on working with Canadian donors. The world is shrinking, it seems, so to help us along our lunch presentation will be on working with international donors. See you soon!
