December 2015

Harness • Connect • Engage

Dear PGGNE Members and Friends,

In the hustle and bustle of year-end gifts and awaiting news about an IRA transfer extension, please remember to REGISTER HERE for our December 18th meeting.

We have an exciting and comprehensive range of topics and speakers on deck for you: Our two concurrent morning sessions include a roundtable discussion addressing collaboration in the development office, and a presentation by Professor Ray Madoff of the Boston College Law School examining current legislative updates and tax issues.

Blair Tripp, Managing Partner of Continuity Family Business Consulting will lead our luncheon presentation about the complexities of enterprising families and what makes them unique. How can we as PGGNE members communicate and manage relationships with these stakeholders.

Finally, this last meeting of 2015 promises to be a special with the “Share Your Gift” part of the lunch program. This is an opportunity to share among members and friends successful fundraising stories that tie together a successful gift which impacts the missions we care so much about, as noted below:

Share Your Gift Story
As fundraisers, we work hard to make especially important gifts happen. Some gifts are important because of their dollar amounts, others because of the eye-opening possibilities they create. And then there are those gifts which may not be momentous to your organization’s bottom line, but added joy and deep meaning to the donor’s life and to yours.

In this season of gratitude, let’s use our December lunch to pause and honor the incredible work we do day in and day out. If you have a story to share of a gift that was particularly meaningful to you, please send a brief summary (300 words or less) by Wednesday, December 16th to board member Susan Looney at

At the December meeting, you will have the opportunity to read your story from the podium, or if you want your name and/or institution name to remain anonymous, a volunteer will read it on your behalf. (If you would like to be a volunteer reader, please email Susan).

January’s Webinar

We intentionally designed this inaugural PGGNE webinar on January 8th so you could invite your fundraising colleagues, senior leadership, financial officers and gift processors to come together and learn what can and cannot be counted when it comes to planned gifts. Led by the capable John Taylor, of John H. Taylor Consulting, plan to share this webinar whether you are in a campaign or not. When you register for the webinar, enter the Dunkin Donuts gift basket raffle by correctly guessing the weather on the day of the webinar! More details and a chance to enter will follow shortly.

Yes, Tony Orlando and Dawn can help you register properly

Have you arrived at a meeting thinking you’ve registered but we don’t have you listed? We have received feedback from members that some registrations are not processing completely. We are here to help!

In a 1970 hit by Tony Orlando and Dawn, a young man croons to the woman downstairs "Knock three times on the ceiling if you want me..." Be sure to knock three times on the green colored button when registering for the meeting: (1) “Save and Proceed to Checkout”; (2) Proceed to Confirmation; and (3) Complete Order. You should then receive an email thanking you for your registration. If you do not receive this confirmation, please contact Beth Battson at (781) 647-4343 who can assist you.

Note: For members who arrive without registering for a meeting, we charge $20.00 at the door. Proper head count is important for assigning session rooms based on registration numbers, and providing the right number of lunch meals to attendees. We will reimburse anyone who can send us either the “Thank you for your order” or “Thank you for registering for the monthly meeting email” that follows each successfully completed registration.

See you on Friday, December 18th!

Best holiday wishes,

Katherine McKay
