Course Description

Looking for an introductory session that covers the basics of planned giving? Or possibly a refresher on the various planned giving strategies available and how to talk about them with donors? Then PGGNE's Fundamentals program is for you!

Who should attend this session?

  • Those new to the field of planned giving
  • Major gift officers who need a working knowledge of planned giving
  • Annual gift officers who deal with important volunteers
  • Development generalists
  • Staff who support the planned giving efforts of your institution

Summary and Objectives

  • Participants will receive an overview of charitable gift planning basics, including the tax aspects of outright contributions and planned giving techniques
  • Emphasis will be on conceptual understanding and the ability to explain the concepts to prospective donors in a clear and convincing way
  • Four major topic areas will be covered: 1) Tax Fundamentals, 2) Assets Used for Charitable Contributions, 3) Basic Planned Giving Methods, and 4) Advanced Planned Giving Methods

Thisall-day introductory session will be presented byCraig C. Wruck, Vice President, University Advancement, Humboldt State University andAuthor, “Planned Giving in a Nutshell”.

Craig Wruck is Vice President for University Advancement at Humboldt State University in California and is former Vice President at Minnesota State University and Hazelden Foundation. His past experience includes the University of Minnesota, St. Paul Community Foundation, William Mitchell College of Law, US Bank, US Trust, and Kaspick & Company. He is a frequent speaker and lecturer on charitable giving topics and the author of the new Planned Giving in a Nutshell, Fourth Edition, a primer on planned giving for development generalists. A former President of the Partnership for Philanthropic planning, he teaches the Brisk Walk Through the Basics seminars for the Minnesota Planned Giving Council.

Parking Options
Abundant, all-day parking can be found in Tufts' Dowling Hall Parking Garage at 419 Boston Avenue for $8. 


To reach the venue from the parkin ggarage, walk toward Winthrop Street on Boston Ave., and take a left on Winthrop Street. 51 Wintrhop will be on your left. (6 minute walk/ 0.3 miles)
