Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) have become one of the most popular vehicles utilized for philanthropic giving. Why is this occurring, and how can charities benefit from this mega-trend? This session will explore those questions through an overview of how DAFs work, examining some creative ways that DAFs are being used by donors, and outlining potential strategies for professional advisors and gift planners and their organizations.

Philanthropic Advising: How and Why Harvard Provides It
Alasdair Halliday, Philanthropic Advisor and Director of Principal Gifts, Harvard University

Alasdair Halliday, Harvard’s Philanthropic Advisor and Director of Principal Gifts, will discuss the how and why of its philanthropic advising practice founded by Charlie Collier at Harvard in the 1990s.

Al will demonstrate their approach, explain its value to Harvard, and outline how he and Anne McClintock continue to extend the work that Charlie began 25 years ago. Hear why this practice has worked well for Harvard’s cultivation and stewardship efforts and see how it may work for you.

*As a Member benefit, if you cannot attend a monthly meeting you can send a substitute from your organization in your place. See policy below. If you know you cannot attend in advance, your "substitute" should register for the meeting using their contact information and follow instructions for substitutes within the form to remove their fee.

 


 

Policies

Registration Policy

Registrations must be received by 10:00 AM the Wednesday prior to the meeting. Once registration is closed it will state CLOSED within the meeting Program Calendar listing. Full Members that do not register prior to the close of registration will be asked to register on-site, a $20 fee will be incurred for lunch.

 

Substitution Policy

Non-profit Members and Allied Profession Members of PGGNE may send a substitute to monthly meetings at no charge as long as the member has registered for the program in advance (see REGISTRATION POLICY above). If the member has not registered in advance, substitutes will be charged a fee of $20 upon registration on-site for lunch.

 

Refund/Cancellation Policy

Cancellations are required by 10:00 AM on the Wednesday prior to the meeting. In accordance, only refund requests received by this time will be granted. Email your cancellation/refund request to info@pggne.org. All emails received will be acknowledged.

 

Snow Policy
PGGNE meetings may be cancelled if the mayor or governor has declared a state of emergency in Boston. If the meeting is cancelled an alert will be posted on the website and the PGGNE office will record a voice mail message (at 781-647-4343) by 8:00 AM on the day of the meeting.

In a hurry?  The Wyndham has advised there is more available garage space on Fridays.  While valet parking is still an option, the Wyndham also offers a self-parking option.  Simply pull into the garage & obtain your ticket. Prior to returning to your car at meeting’s end, pay at the garage office & be on your way!
