2001 PGGNE Salary Survey
For the first time in our history, PGGNE has successfully conducted a membership salary survey. We polled the PGGNE membership last summer and the overwhelming majority of members preferred to participate in an online salary survey. Thanks to the recommendation of Bill Laskin, we contracted with Zoomerang.com to conduct this Internet survey. The response rate was outstanding - nearly 52% of our members completed the electronic survey! As a point of reference, WID's 1999-2000 Philanthropy Survey received a 29% response and a 2000 Planned Giving Today Survey received a 44% response rate. The latter was characterized as "unusually high." Thank you PGGNE members for your participation.
When we created the survey, we made a conscious effort to focus on the non-profit planned giving professional. Indeed our for-profit members make up an important part of our membership (16%), however, we felt that the relatively small sample size would diminish the reliability of the survey findings in that particular category.
It is also important to note that the PGGNE membership consists of a very broad range of development professionals, many of whom have responsibilities in several areas of development. Therefore the results of this survey are broader than the planned giving universe. One frustration of this survey was the large number of diverse titles that did not "fit" into our prescribed list. The next survey will feature an expanded version of titles for more accurate reporting.
Our survey also used very broad salary ranges. Future surveys will have narrower salary ranges to produce more specific results.
The membership committee welcomes all comments and suggestions on this survey and input on improvements for future surveys.
A few general survey results:
