Please mark your calendars and make sure to bring a friend to the  All-DAY CONFERENCE.

 Website Tips

Here are a few things members can do to take full advantage of the new website. The first thing is Sign In. Emails were sent from info@pggne.org on October 24 and on November 17 with your username and temporary password. Please go to www.pggne.org and sign in. You will then be able to change the password.

Note that you have to sign in before registering for a meeting so that the system recognizes you as a member.

If you need help or have questions, please email us at info@pggne.org.

Job Postings

Even if you are not “in the market,” perhaps you know someone who is, or who might not be aware of this particular service that we offer our members and advertisers. What could be more satisfying than to bring together two parties in a win-win situation? Go to the Career Center on the new website for all the information you need.

Parking Information

Two parking options are available. Please note that 200 Stuart Street Garage fills up fast and PGGNE cannot guarantee a parking space in either garage due to increased car/guest volume.

200 Stuart Street Garage: Located within the Revere Hotel, PGGNE meeting attendees may self park for a validated rate $17. Be sure to pick up your parking validation ticket from the PGGNE registration desk. Rates are not applicable for overnight guests. If you see a sign stating that the parking garage is full, please inform the hotel attendant that you are participating in the PGGNE meeting. They will often be able to direct you to an open space.

Motor Mart Garage: Located at 201 Stuart Street, across from the Revere Hotel. Discounted rates are not available at this garage. The current rate schedule can be found here

Snow Policy

Thought we would share this, even though it has been such a mild winter…NOT. Please remember that PGGNE meetings may be cancelled if the mayor or governor has declared a state of emergency in Boston. If the meeting is cancelled an alert will be posted on the website and the PGGNE office will record a voice mail message (at 781-647-4343, press *300) by 8:00 AM on the day of the meeting.

From the President

Dear PGGNE Members and Friends,

After shoveling many, many pounds of snow, I am very happy to be writing this note poolside in Florida. I remember years ago in Orlando, at my second Partnership for Philanthropic Planning conference, seeing a colleague sitting by the pool focused on her computer and looking quite productive. I had always thought of going south in the winter as a time for turning off completely. But, most of us go south to work in the winter. It is a time of balancing - working hard as well as recharging the batteries with sunshine. I’ve come to love this very satisfying mix. I hope each of you has had a chance to work hard and recharge in the warm weather at some point this winter!

I’ll be back home soon and as we turn the corner into March, I’ll be thinking of the Spring. To me Spring is a time of new beginnings. That is why it is a perfect time of year for the PGGNE Fundamentals one day seminar. For those new to planned giving and interested in a comprehensive overview of the field, the Fundamentals course is ideal. Craig Wruck is a master at teaching everything a beginner (or even a skilled practitioner interested in honing their knowledge base) needs to know to work with donors. His book, Planned Giving In a Nutshell is a valuable resource attendees will turn to again and again as they develop their expertise in planned giving. The Fundamentals details and sign up are on the PGGNE website.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the March meeting. The focus is on a great topic, estate administration. We can all help our organizations by being proactive in monitoring and receiving disbursements from our donors’ estates. We will get some great tips on this process from Allison Treitler of the Harvard Management Company with her basics presentation “Life Cycle of the Estate 101". For more experienced practitioners, Bob Barr from Saint Paul’s School and Geoff Mason from Ropes & Gray will distinguish “Practical vs. Legal Issues (How to Optimize Your Organization’s Yield)”. And we are very fortunate to have Christine Martignetti from the MIT Investment Management Company and Rebecca Scott from Tufts University of Medicine sharing some challenging experiences in settling estate gifts with their presentation “Tales from the Trench” during the luncheon. What a great day of programming. I do hope you can join us!

Did You Miss Last Month's Meeting?

The PGGNE Board would like to give a huge SHOUT OUT and THANK YOU to those who battled the elements and the Patriots victory parade to attend our February meeting. The sessions started with our regularly scheduled “meet and greet” networking opportunity for all members. The coffee and tea were certainly popular that day. Cameron Casey and Martin Hall shared their knowledge of "Merging Wealth Transfers with Charitable Gift Planning" at the Basics session, while Bill Zook enlightened the Nuts & Bolts attendees on "Working with Canadian Donors". The luncheon attendees were treated to a great presentation on "International Fundraising" by speaker Ellen Sullivan.
