The Spence School, one of the premier college preparatory day schools for girls, enrolling 680 students from Kindergarten through 12th grade, located on the Upper East Side of New York City, seeks a seasoned and strategically oriented Campaign Director. The Campaign Director will be responsible for day-to-day planning, coordination and management of the Capital Campaign. The position is both strategic and tactical, incorporating all components of a capital campaign from the quiet phase through the launch and implementation of the public phase. The role entails working collaboratively with members of the Spence Development staff, the Board of Trustees, parent and alumnae volunteers as well as fundraising counsel.
In 2003, Spence completed a capital campaign of just over $50 million dollars, resulting in a new Lower School and the renovation of a number of floors in the main school building at 22 East 91st Street. The School is now embarking on an ambitious Capital Campaign to support implementation of a Master Campus Plan. (Please view long-range plan at www.spenceschool.org.) The school’s endowment is currently valued at approximately $75 million. In 2009/10, Spence School received $2.85 in Annual Giving. There are 2,682 alumnae.
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of development experience in major gifts and/or capital campaigns. Familiarity with NYC philanthropy and Independent School experience are strongly preferred. This full-time position reports to the Director of Development, and is offered for a two-three year period for the duration of the campaign. Salary is commensurate with experience.
